Relief rug daisies with two types of pile – 3D design and volume
Relief rug daisies with two types of pile is not just a decorative floor covering, but a true carpet sculpture created by our studio’s craftsmen for a client in Moldova. This rug demonstrates how modern tufting techniques combined with manual craftsmanship can turn a carpet into a real piece of art.
Technology of making the relief rug daisies
The design was achieved by using two types of pile – cut pile and loop pile (bouclé). The pile height varied from 10 mm in the background to 35 mm in the daisy petals. The background itself was carefully constructed with alternating bouclé rows of 10 and 16 mm, creating a minimalist yet refined texture. In contrast, the daisy petals were made with lush 35 mm cut pile, while the rug border was finished with a 16 mm cut pile loop.
Unique trimming technique and volume effect
The key feature of this rug is its deep trimming, executed with the so-called “pipe method.” This technique allows us to sculpt high-pile carpets, creating smooth recesses and enhancing relief. After the main trimming, each petal element was carefully refined by hand, resulting in a truly three-dimensional appearance.
A carpet as a sculpture
The outcome exceeded expectations: the client initially thought that one rug had been placed on top of another. The strong bas-relief texture and sculptural qualities made this rug the centerpiece of the interior – more than decoration, it became a unique carpet sculpture.
