Tufting training “Let’s Make a Rug” – Tufting from Fun to Professional Level

Very soon, Brussels will welcome a unique and the only tufting training of its kind in Europe — the “Let’s Make a Rug” tufting school. Here, you will find a complete training program in hand tufting — from fun and entertainment to a fully professional level. This is a completely new educational space where anyone can discover the art of rug making and feel the joy of creating something truly handmade.

The school is built on my 20+ years of experience in professional rug production. You can progress through three levels of training — “Just for Fun!”, “Hobby,” and “Professional,” create your first rugs, and explore the entire tufting process, from the initial stitches to high-level finishing techniques.

Level 1: “Just for Fun!” – Your First Introduction to Tufting

The first level is a 4–5-hour inspiring workshop designed for those who want to try something creative and new. During this session, you will learn the basics of hand tufting, get familiar with modern amateur tufting equipment, and create your first small rug sized 40×50 cm entirely by yourself.

All materials and tools are provided by the school: high-quality hobby-level tufting equipment, professional tufting fabric, wool rug yarn, and latex. You can find more details about the materials here:

We use special frames developed based on my 20 years of experience in professional rug tufting. You will see the entire process from the inside and create your first rug under my personal guidance. Participants will also have the chance to see real completed works from our rug collection:

This first step into the world of tufting will undoubtedly inspire you and may become the beginning of an exciting creative journey.

Level 2: “Hobby” – Deepening Your Skills & Creating Your Own Design

The second level is ideal for those who have already tried tufting and want to improve their skills. This 8–9-hour intensive session will allow you to:

develop deeper knowledge of hand tufting techniques;
learn the secrets of proper fabric stretching, transferring your design, edge finishing and professional trimming;
master more advanced tufting techniques;
create a 70×80 cm rug based on your own design.

This level offers a complete creative immersion. You will work on my equipment and use only professional-grade materials. Step by step, your sketch will turn into a soft, vibrant, durable rug.

Level 3: “Professional” – One-on-One Advanced Tufting Training

The third level is an individual training program designed for those aiming to become professionals and create artistic or commercial rug projects. This training is based on my experience of teaching more than 30 specialists over 20+ years of the Carpet Studio.

Here, you will learn a full range of professional tufting techniques:

cut and loop pile (bouclé);
shaggy (J-tuft);
flat and high-low sculpted trimming;
design layout and pattern preparation;
production of rugs up to 280×390 cm.
