The compass sets the ship's course, takes bearings, determines the vessel's location, and helps avoid shoals and sandbanks.
It is one of the oldest navigation tools. The round shape of the compass evokes strong impressions for any boy who has been on a captain's bridge and for all those who love the sea and maritime romance.
